Evaluation Questions
• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My Student magazine had to stand out from any others so that people would buy mine over others. It has to be aimed at a specific target audience. The front cover of a Student magazine has to interest the students to buy it. The Contents is extra information of what is inside. and usually has pictures and a letter from the editor. I included both of these to keep my contents page as realistic as possible. The front cover is to represent the whole magazine and sell it! A typical magazine cover usually consists of a masthead, cover lines and sometimes a banner, with one main picture. My front cover has all of these aspects. I pushed the boundaries by choosing a very specific name for a very specific target audience. I called my magazine 'The Bohemian' this means someone that does not tend to follow the crowd. They choose to be 'different' or a little outragous compared to the norm through there behaviour or image. I chose to use a picture which represented my magazine name. I have put my front cover 'The Bohemian' and 'Talent' magazine next to each other to compare. They have many similarities.
• How does your media product represent particular social groups? This is a very specific social group. It is aimed at students which are looking for a magazine that is a little more outragous than others. It would be aimed at both boys and girls who have an edge. On my front cover i tried to use short cover lines and a interesting picture. This would attract more people as large amounts of text can put people off.
• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? My magazine would be distributed by the college, maybe by the student council. I to do my magazine in this style and for the particlar target audience because i saw a gap in the market.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product is very specific. They would be into unique music and bands that not many people have heard of. Their image would be individual, they would not follow the fashion at the time. Their hairstyle would be outragous. They would not be afraid to stand out from the crowd and attract attention to themselves.
• How did you attract/address your audience?
I made sure my font, picture and colour scheme all represent my target audience so that they can relate to it. The colours are very sharp and strong. The writing is edgy and different to the typical bubble or gaphiti fonts that alot of teenage magazines would use. The picture is of a girl who has a very individual image. she has dyed hair and wears clothes that stand out. This would suggest she is a bohemian. I have used language that a teenager would relate to on my cover lines, for example 'Students dish the dirt on the latest Freshers bash' this language is young and uses slang.

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I learnt when using a digital camera to use a background which is blank, this is so you can save time instead of having to edit your picture. I had to edit my picture on fireworks which i had never used before. This will be good for the future as i now know what the different tools are for. I used publisher to create my magazine cover and contents page as it is a simple programme to use.
Final Magazine Cover
This is my final Draft i think that everything has been perfected and that i have brought the best ideas from each of my drafts to produce this. The picture and masthead are clear which is the most important thing. It has catch cover lines to interest the audience. And the colours are eycatching so this magazine will get chose over others. I have met my breif with this front cover so i am happy with it.
2nd Draft of Magazine Cover
I really like this draft, the masthead across the middle makes the front cover interesting. But the layout of the cover lines make it look pretty bare. I think the font of the cover lines and the font of the masthead goes really well together. In my final I might consider putting a banner on the cover.
1st Draft for Magazine
This is my first draft of my magazine cover. The photograph is extremly clear and has eye contact with the audience. I like the colour scheme as the colours are bold. The only thing that i don't like is that theMasthead is across the bottom. This makes it look odd and not stand out as well as it could. And the banner at the top is boring.

Photo Options
2. I like this photo as the girl in the photo has clear eye contact with the camera. You can tell that it has been shot in a school so teenagers will relate to this.
3. This photo is good as the expressions on the girls face are very exageratted and clear. The background is plain which puts the main focus onto the model.

Textual Analysis- Student iD
There are several different pictures showing students having fun, most with drinks in their hands. Teenagers will be able to relate to this. The colours used for the cover lines are bright and clashing. This makes the magazine look young and quirky. The masthead is written in lower case and upper case letters, it looks like it has been stamped on. It is very bold and draws you attention. This is because the background is black and this is written on white. The banner at the bottom of the cover is also bold and makes you want to look inside.
Textual Analysis- Smaart Talent
This magazines has a cheeky front cover. The picture is fun of a young woman blowing a bubble. This portrays a youthfulness as we stereotypically relate bubblegum to the teenagers. It also will encourage the reader to pick up the magazine as they will think it is not going to be boring and packed full of just careers advice. It is a medium shot and she has eye contact with the audience, this engages the reader. The simple colours of pink, brown and white are very sophisticated and classy. The word TALENT has a shiny finish to it and a 3D effect, it makes it look very modern and edgy. The magazine name SMAART TALENT makes the reader think that if they read it they will become smart and talented. The cover lines are in a graffiti font this is very youthful and specific to the audience. The headline 'Miquita goes pop' has ambiguous meaning, it is describing the bubblegum going 'pop' but also the fact that Miquita's job is to do with presenting pop (music) shows. This also gives you a sneak preveiw of what might be inside. It says at the top of the magazine that it is 'The careers magazine for black and minority ethnic students' there is a picture of an etnic lady, this is so the audience will feel as though they can relate to this magazine.

My Brief...
My task for Media is to create the front cover of a new college magazine. It has to include a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriatley laid out text and a masthead. I will also have to produce a mock of the layout of the contents page.
We were also asked to create a blog and update it with the work we do as we go along. We have been told to update our blog every lesson. My blog will be used for various different things, such as finding out what my target audience want, seeing whether people like what i do and keeping organised.
