Evaluation Questions

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My Student magazine had to stand out from any others so that people would buy mine over others. It has to be aimed at a specific target audience. The front cover of a Student magazine has to interest the students to buy it. The Contents is extra information of what is inside. and usually has pictures and a letter from the editor. I included both of these to keep my contents page as realistic as possible. The front cover is to represent the whole magazine and sell it! A typical magazine cover usually consists of a masthead, cover lines and sometimes a banner, with one main picture. My front cover has all of these aspects. I pushed the boundaries by choosing a very specific name for a very specific target audience. I called my magazine 'The Bohemian' this means someone that does not tend to follow the crowd. They choose to be 'different' or a little outragous compared to the norm through there behaviour or image. I chose to use a picture which represented my magazine name. I have put my front cover 'The Bohemian' and 'Talent' magazine next to each other to compare. They have many similarities.

• How does your media product represent particular social groups? This is a very specific social group. It is aimed at students which are looking for a magazine that is a little more outragous than others. It would be aimed at both boys and girls who have an edge. On my front cover i tried to use short cover lines and a interesting picture. This would attract more people as large amounts of text can put people off.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? My magazine would be distributed by the college, maybe by the student council. I to do my magazine in this style and for the particlar target audience because i saw a gap in the market.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product is very specific. They would be into unique music and bands that not many people have heard of. Their image would be individual, they would not follow the fashion at the time. Their hairstyle would be outragous. They would not be afraid to stand out from the crowd and attract attention to themselves.

• How did you attract/address your audience?
I made sure my font, picture and colour scheme all represent my target audience so that they can relate to it. The colours are very sharp and strong. The writing is edgy and different to the typical bubble or gaphiti fonts that alot of teenage magazines would use. The picture is of a girl who has a very individual image. she has dyed hair and wears clothes that stand out. This would suggest she is a bohemian. I have used language that a teenager would relate to on my cover lines, for example 'Students dish the dirt on the latest Freshers bash' this language is young and uses slang.

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I learnt when using a digital camera to use a background which is blank, this is so you can save time instead of having to edit your picture. I had to edit my picture on fireworks which i had never used before. This will be good for the future as i now know what the different tools are for. I used publisher to create my magazine cover and contents page as it is a simple programme to use.
